Peter Tait was my best mate. He was the breakfast show presenter on Magic 828 in Leeds and sadly
lost his fight against a brain tumour in September 2002. He left us with a legacy of his humour and
spirit and I think about him every day. We miss you Peetsie!
To be continued with photos and stories about this magic mate.
Star of The Eclipse
Ended up outside the Mid Day Sun in Coulsdon yesterday and all the memories came flooding back. Popped inside and the waitress asked what I wanted; what's upstairs these days I asked, a couple of flats although it used to be a night club came the reply; how do you know that I asked (she was too young to know), oh my mum and aunts all used to come here when they were young and told me about it. I asked for a piece of paper and pen and asked her to give it to her mum - I wrote: 1974 - 1979, DJ's Peter Tait, Pete Laurenz (Peter Lawrence), Dick Sheppard, Dale Winton, Freddie Jansen and others all send their love and this one's for you, Rock Your Baby by George McCrae x
Peter taught me all I ever knew about professional DJing although I didn't choose it as a career; we were just in touch again after 20 years or more and about to organise a Goodhews DJ's reunion when he lost his fight.
Would love to share some memories if anyone has the time.
Peter Tait, Roger Scott, Alan Freeman all forerunners of the great DJ revolution - "top man" Pete, the best I ever heard. Peter Lawrence (pwlit@hotmail.com)
Sen Year Itch!
It seems like only yesterday you were on the phone moaning about something or other and we were having a good bitch about some poor sod. That's the thing I miss most - talking to you on the phone. I miss hearing your voice - not just on the radio either. That said, I hear you every day - in my head - in the phrases all of us that knew you use - the gestures we make - the sarcastic jokes we crack - its all bits and pieces of you. You left your mark in our memories. We are who we are in part because of you - good an bad. There is so much we didnt do - but yet so much we did. The adventures - the laughter - the scheming - the bitching - the gigs - the meals out - the trips to Florida. I miss them. I miss you. Keep spinning the heavenly hits Peetsie. Love always from Porky

Peter I can't believe it's been 7 years already. Seems like just yesterday I spoke to you. Mandi and I were looking at old vacation pictures and found the ones when we went to Disney World. You, Mandi and Pooh look so cute! Such wonderful memories. Love you and miss you dearly. Love Trudy and Mandi.
7 years already
Its that day again peter, those awful memories of that day come flooding back, but i have so many nice memories of you to make me feel better.Funny how so many things come to light, and fir into place now. I do hope you have found some peice with yourself peter, all my love Debbiexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx you are missed so much.
Just been going back in my mind, remembering the "good old days" of Radio Trent and Pete came back into my mind. I can still remember the day I heard about Pete's passing from another Trent presenter. I always remember Peter whenever I hear "A Walkin Miracle" by Limmie and the Family Cooking as he used to play this quite a bit on Trent and there is a line in the song that sounds just like they are singing his name. Still a big loss to radio today.

Peter
Peter, I think of you often and remember all the wonderful times we had together. I look forward to going to Madeira Beach every year. You feel so close to me when I am thre. I always remember the look on your face when you picked me up from the airport each year. Mandi always talks of you and when we went to Disney and MGM Studios. Her nickname is still Babydoll ...the one you gave her, but you know that because you are watching over us from Heaven. The beach always will have a special meaning because that is where we met you. All the phone calls throughout the year are missed. You were the love of my life Peter Tait and we will walk along the beach together again someday. Love Trudy
Love of my life
i have been trying to find info on Peter for ages. I know he was on friends reunited a few years ago. I met Pete when he was a DJ at The Boathouse at Kew in 1971 I was 15 and he was 21. I thought he was gorgeous, but at the time he was mad about a girl calle Jackie Davidson who later moved to Scotland. I think at the time a few people thought I was too young, 6 years is nothing. I remember meeting his mum and brother who were living in Shirley at the time. Im really sad to hear this news, would be grateful if somebody could fill me in with some info.He always use to call me Jaffajuice. His friend at the time was a man called Denny. Did Peter ever marry. Brokenhearted, Joanne.
Chairman of the Board
I've been meaning to write this for weeks...
Peter and I were mates from the late 60's and early 70's - he had long hair then! We worked for the same DJ agency in Streatham, London and often met up - either at one of the discos or pubs we worked at (aerodrome hotel, croydon to name but one!) or usually in London for the Radio One Club at the Paris Studios near Regent Street. After the show (and getting our dj venues mentioned by the radio one dj at the time), we'd go off round the record companies, blagging promo copies of new releases and trying to get onto mailing lists!
Peter would always buy american imports and one day, we were walking around soho and carnaby street, looking in record shops, and Peter had been raving about a new record he'd bought a few weeks before by Chairmen of the Board called 'give me just a little more time'...I bought a copy that day and played it at all my venues until the intro became so crackly from the continuous cue-ing (american imports weren't as robust as uk singles). Luckily it was released in the uk soon after and i could play the uk copy!
Now, whenever they play Chairmen of the Board on the radio, I think of Peter...
He was a friend and he's often in my thoughts - even when they don't play Chairmen of the Board!
ALWAYS MAGIC TO ME
Some days it seems like yesterday. Others its like a lifetime ago. Six years today since we lost a remarkable friend and gifted broadcaster. But on the radio in my mind I listen to you every day. I hear your voice - those deep textrous tones - your humour - those near the knuckle jokes - and whenever I pass Marks and Spencer I see you at the checkout with your purchases and provisions! You will always been in our hearts and ears - and without you the magic on magic just isnt magical anymore. Remembering all the love Debbie and her kids gave to you and although I dont see much of them these days they too are always in my heart. Love ya Peetsie - keep spinning those heavenly hits!! Love always from Porky, Lesley, Lil and Will xxxx
